PHP Introduction and WAMP Installation on Windows: PHP is a general purpose open source server side scripting language. It is originally built for web development. It is an interpreted language and can be embedded to HTML. As it is an interpreted language, so to run the PHP scripts it will need a web server and a PHP processor. Originally PHP stands for Personal Home Page, but it is now called PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor. Mostly it is run on Apache web server, but it can be also run on other web servers like Microsoft IIS. Starting from PHP 5.4, there is a built in web server provided and is only for development and testing purpose.
PHP got a big market share since its release and major improvement are made into it. In PHP 4 there were very less support for OOP, but in PHP 5, full support for OOP is added and still new features are added into it so PHP became an OOP language.
PHP 5 has all major features which a programming language should have including loops, functions, classes, namespaces etc etc. PHP has also support for all variety of databases including MSSQL, MySQL, Orcale, Postgre SQL and SQLite etc. etc. For more information please read PHP .
PHP can be installed on all major Operating Systems like MS Windows, All flavors of Linux and MAC . On each OS you can install all parts separately like install Apache first, then install PHP and then install MySQL. But there are simple installation tools which install and configure the whole PHP installation for you easily. For Windows we use WAMP (Windows, APACHE, MySQL, PHP), for linux LAMP (Linux, APACHE, MySQL, PHP) and for MAC MAMP (MAC, APACHE, MySQL, PHP).
In this post we will be Installing WAMP on Windows. You can download WAMP from here according to your 32 bit or 64 bit system. After you download the latest version of WAMP, click on the exe file and you will get the following Welcome screen.
Click next on the welcome screen and you will be on the following screen.
Accept the agreement and click Next, and you will get the following screen.
Select your WAMP server installation path. In order to avoid data lose in system crash, never install WAMP in C, always install it on another partition. If your system Windows corrupts or your system is crashed, then your sites files and databases will be safe. Select your appropriate partition and folder by clicking on Browse.. button and then click Next. You will get the following step.
Keep the selection as above and click next.
In the above screen, review your installation parameters for the WAMP installation and click next and the installing will be started as below
When the installation completes in the above screen you will see the following default browser selection screen.
When you select the default browser for WAMP, then click open. After that you will get a mail settings screen as followed.
Leave the mail settings as they are as at our local systems we cant send emails. Click next and you will be on the following screen.
Now the WAMP Server installation is completed. Click finish and the WAMP server will start.
